Japan hit by huge quake, tsunami

Japan was rocked by one of the most severe earthquakes, and subsequent 10 m high tsunami, with dozens reported dead and many more missing. Over 2,800 people have also been evacuated from the area surrounding Japan’s Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.

“The magnitude-8.9 temblor off Japan’s northeastern coast shook buildings in the capital, left millions of homes across Japan without electricity, shut down the mobile phone network and severely disrupted landline telephone service. It brought train system to a halt, paralyzing the daily commuter flow of more than 10 million people,” according to AP.

There’s been no word of French casualties yet, though this Marketwatch article mentions a French businessman who had the misfotune of experiencing their first quake yesterday. European stock markets are already experiencing aftershocks, the Wall Street Journal reports.

One Response to Japan hit by huge quake, tsunami

    >Tokyo was rocked by one of the most severe earthquakes, and…tsunami

Tokyo got hit by the earthquake…but it wasn’t the epicenter. And the tsunami didn’t hit here (Tokyo).

The epicenter was in Sendai. The tsunami hit there and Iwate. North of Tokyo.
